My name is Johanna, 21 years old.
From the sooner state of Oklahoma (No, I'm not a cowgirl, but yes I do know how to ride a horse and horses happen to be my favorite animal. )
This blog is chronicling my journey as I seek God and a life filled with beauty and truth. Right now that happens to be in a poor province in Coastal Peru.
I came here not speaking hardly any Spanish, and now living with an only-spanish-speaking-family.
My life here is full of learning new words, trying delicious Peruvian food, helping with a feeding ministry, attending an small gospel-preaching church, teaching english classes and becoming part of the lively Peruvian culture.
This blog is not meant to be profound or anything too special. I know I am not breaking new ground here by being a 20-something girl writing a blog that is seeking to "break out of the norm" and "experience other cultures" and "serve the needy in a 3rd world country"
I am by no means an accomplished blogger or writer. This blog is mainly just to give little glimpses and updates of my daily life here to my friends and family back stateside.
A few really
(but if i'm feeling like a coffee snob- I prefer to drink spanish cafe-con-leche, in Spain of course) |
I am an obsessed OKC thunder fan. but don't care about any other sports at all.
I hate mayonaise (the american kind. I actually kinda like the peruvian style 'mayonesa' with lime)
I spent 4 months living in Europe last year, and now am in South America for 4 months. (Maybe next year I'll go to Africa or Asia for 4 months to keep up the trend?)

My amazing family!!! |
I am the second youngest of an amazing family of 5 kids. And I love my family more than anything.
The american food I miss more than anything is Peanut butter. I never realized how attached I was to it until I moved to a country that doesn't have it. I plan on eating Peanut butter on everything when I am next in the USA.
I talk in my sleep. like a lot. like every single night. It used to be just in english. but now my roommate tells me its mostly all in Spanish
I love to travel. I love everything about travelling. I love airplanes, airports, languages, public transportation... you name it.
I like to read.
I never watch tv. unless its a NBA game or the olympics. or there is a tornado within a few miles from my house.
..... and I feel so cliche writing this "about me" page that I am going to stop now so I don't erase all of it.
